Marine Software Newsletter - April 2009

U.K based Marine Software Limited announces the supply of Marine Planned Maintenance to Hawaii Superferry new vessel Huakai, which is a 113 metre high speed vehicle and passenger ferry built by Austal. Huakai, which was built at Austal’s Mobile Alabama yard, is the largest ever USA built aluminium catamaran.

Marine Software provided an efficient and cost effective planned maintenance database set up for this vessel, which is similar to a sister vessel, Alakai, equipped with Marine Planned Maintenance system, also operated by Hawaii Superferry.

The setup which was carried out both at Marine Software’s headquarters in the UK and on site at the yard, to fine tune the database for differences in outfit, such as heavy duty stern ramp designed for austere ports without shore side loading facilities and capable of unloading 42 tonne trucks, additional hydraulic power pack and a secondary ramp recovery system.

As there was to be a delay between the delivery and entering service, Marine Planned Maintenance system included the new Lay-Up module, enabling the scheduled PM database to be hibernated whilst activating a secondary set of out of service jobs. Once she enters service the hibernated PM system will be reactivated and the PM schedule moved forward to start at the reactivation date. All class and statutory jobs are unaffected by the hibernation.

Marine Software’s lay-up system can be delivered either as an additional module to an existing Marine Planned Maintenance system or as a stand alone system.
